Who we are.
In 2017, Universal Technology Company (UTC) of Dayton, Ohio, consolidated various company initiatives and recent acquisitions in Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing into a dedicated business unit focused on expanding the possibilities of metals and multi-material AM to meet defense and industry needs. Over the next two years, technology and product developments were driven by federal R&D funds, internal investments, and relationships with the University of Dayton Research Institute and other partners.
UTC acquired the website openadditive.com in 2018, and branded the initial product line as OpenAdditive™ ahead of its debut at 2019 RAPID+TCT trade show. In October 2019, with backing from internal and external investment, Open Additive, LLC, was established by the key members of UTC's AM business unit as a separate business focused on commercial and government sales of metal AM systems and related technologies, products, and services.
Full standup/spinout of Open Additive, LLC, will be completed in November to begin taking orders for AM systems, sensors, services, and R&D contracts as a fully separate and legally independent entity from UTC.
